But in all reality, this family is so special to me and I was honored to take their family photos.
When a family is THIS beautiful and THIS fun, you just know that it is going to be a great session.
But in all reality, this family is so special to me and I was honored to take their family photos.

Five Generations. What an incredible thing. I felt so honored to be trusted with this season of their lives. Swoon! Just look at sweet Simon's little face! His smile! His eyes! Katie and I were in the 6th grade together..but have stayed Facebook friends ever since. It was so fun to catch up with her and to meet her sweet baby Simon!
This is what I love: my clients. The stories of the sessions. The history of the relationships. This is why I do what I do. Here is a little preview of this sweet sweet family session from last night! (I wanted to put every image in this blog, because I loved them all THAT much... but that wouldn't have left any surprises for the family..) This family is so special to me and I am sure that I have never felt so honored to be asked to take pictures for a family as I was last night. I loved everything about this session!
This family. I do not typically struggle with finding words to describe beautiful things, but at this moment I feel as if I am coming up short. I do not think that I will ever be able to find the words to adequately describe just how much this family means to me. I am not sure that I will ever be able to describe the impact they have all had on my life in such a short time. I am not even sure if I yet comprehend the proufound imprint God has allowed them to place on my life because it seems as if each day I recall a memory or a lesson that the Defendorfs are directly connected to in my mind. These four wonderfully silly boys became the little brothers that I had always wanted. They provided more laughs, more forts, more cuddles, and more tackles than I had ever thought possible in college. A typical moment with them consisted of one hanging on me trying to pull me to the ground while the others ether teased me or complimented me.. and I can't help but chuckle at it all. They were exactly what I needed on the days when I wanted to give up and go home. They taught me to find joy in every moment. They taught me to support and love your parents through everything. These boys look at their parents like they hung the stars in the sky. And I think we all need to see that deep admiration modeled in a loving household. I think the world needs more of the respect and love these boys hold for their family. Fred and Hannah have individually played a pivotal role in my life, but together are even greater. Fred saw something in me that I did not quite think was there. He challenged me and encouraged me and taught me how to lead...and how to love those I was leading. Hannah showed me what it truly meant to lovingly and selflessly support a husband who was devoted to the task God had given him. She showed me what it looks like to seek out encouraging relationships, for she reached out to me to build a friendship that I am so very thankful for. Together, they model how beautiful it is to be a team in marriage and in ministry. Don't let these easy portraits fool you. Their standard poses consist of piling on top of each other and making goofy faces. Is it a coincidence that I love them so much? Probably not. Thank you for inviting me into your home and into your family.
Thank you for believing in me and for picking me up when I fell and for making me laugh when I needed it the most. Thank you for sharing this season of your lives with me. When I look back on my time in college, your family will be the first I think of. From blanket forts and train tracks to heart-to-hearts and shared tears while watching Father of the Bride, I will always smile and thank God for your family. It has all meant far more to me than I had ever imagined to be possible. This is my family and I love them so. (Also, notice Cooper off to the side feeling neglected but making sure we didn't leave him out.) This little blue-eyed baby! The men. The women. I love that they love being grandparents so much.
I loved this session with the Shansky family! It was so very fun to work with the older kids and hear their ideas for photos and poses! They fought the cold and rain like champs. Thank you for choosing me to capture this season of life your family is in! It was an honor!
This little family. I call Mac the "4th Brother" because he was around so much in high school. Little Mackenzie calls me "Aunt Sara." Her smile lights up any room she walks into and she her huge personality takes over. I was so excited when Amanda contacted me to reserve a spot for them! I think you will understand why as you scroll through this mini-session! The joys of childhood include showing off her new ability to jump. I had packed an umbrella in my bag that day, then pulled it out when some trees started to drip on our happy girl. It just so happened to be her lucky day because the umbrella was a child-sized version...so she got a happy little gift from Aunt Sara...and I couldn't believe how excited she was! Mac & Amanda, your family is so wonderful! Thank you for allowing me to capture this season of your lives together!
The Milbert family has been such a joy to get to know. I grew up in the same youth group as Sam and always looked up to her. Now she trusts me to capture these seasons of her adorable family and it is so fun to watch her boys grow up through my camera! I loved that she was the first to contact me when I announced a mini-session day this fall! The joys of family come with both laughter and tears. The Milbert's reminded me of that during this session! And no matter what, those boys are adorable. Just adorable.
I adore this little family. It was such an honor to be asked to capture more memories for the Milbert's after shooting Baby Mason's newborn session this past winter. However, this photo shoot was all about Braden...in honor of his 3rd birthday! I think he loved being in the spotlight.. Braden loves his Aunt Coco and I'm glad she was there to help! Nicole is a huge blessing in my life, and a pretty fantastic Aunt Coco to these two little guys.
