I had the immense pleasure of throwing together a baby shower for my sister-in-law and my brother...and for my first niece or nephew! It was a day filled with much laughter and even more love.
This couple was unable to have a naked cake at their wedding, so I was super excited to make one for the baby shower! However, pride goes before a fall..and I was feeling pretty prideful about this beaut. My aunt made the cakes and all I needed to do was put it all together. Unfortunately, being the newbie cake girl, I didn't realize there was a paper layer on the bottom of the cakes. I learned that you need to peel the paper layer off before stacking the cake layers... We all had a great laugh about that one as I explained to 40 women my blunder. |
One of my favorite things about putting this shower together was the opportunity to work with people I love. The sheep (on the right) was one of six animals my grandpa helped me make for this baby. Below is a baby gym that my dad helped me construct and build. I am in no way a skilled handy-woman or carpenter, but I do love learning new skills...especially when that learning comes as I stand side by side with some of my dearest people. |
How big is your belly?
This activity turned out much better than anticipated. As an ice-breaker, we had each table work together to blow up a balloon to the approximate size of Audrey's belly. They then proceeded to decide upon a model and compare sizes. We measured Audrey, then measured each lady.
Audrey measured in at 39-inches. We had a tie between two tables at 41-inches each. The prize was a lot of laughter and the chance to eat first. They didn't mind!
My mother chooses a killer menu. With much help from the aunts and grandmothers, the table was full with delicious afternoon snacks and cookies.
Activities.
Per request from Audrey's Pinterest board, each guest was able to paint a side of a block for the baby's nursery. (The little girls in attendance loved this and painted multiple blocks!)
Caleb's favorite game show is "The Price is Right." We played the baby edition. Each guest had to guess the price of 8 baby items and see how close they got.
The prize was a take-home box of the delicious treats. This gem of an idea goes to my mom. Way to go!
Gifts and love.
Instead of normal cards, we asked each guest to bring a children's book for the new family's library. It was so cool to see who loves what story! As a future-teacher, I may or may not have given this baby a whole stack of my favorites.
This chair was purchased by my grandma and grandpa for the church. My older cousins both sat on it during their baby shower, so I was very excited to pass on that tradition to my sister.
Mema has created a tradition of making these special quilts for her grandchildren. In her desire to do the same for her great-grandchildren, she got a head start this winter. Caleb and Audrey actually told her they were expecting by telling her they would be needed that quilt a lot sooner than expected! |
